Anvita Raj – Founder and Creator
I am a self-taught artist and a certified Intermodal Expressive Art Therapy Practitioner believe am from nowhere and everywhere and that home is not necessarily a physical place. Home is a feeling of rest, ease and trust that one finds and carries within themselves irrespective of where one is geographically located.

Prior to starting Jambavan, I spent 12 years in the field of creative communication with organisations like Disney, Times of India etc. Until Sept 2020, I was living in Mumbai & now I am relishing the slow life in the beautiful coastal town of Varkala, Kerala.

Having bid adieu to the corporate world, I am now using the skills & learnings acquired there & on my extensive travels across the world to hold space for conscious gatherings that can act as safe containers for encouraging deep play & uninhibited creative expression.

I am an Intermodal Expressive Art Therapy Practitioner certified from Swahansa Institute (Member of the International Expressive Arts Training Institutes) in cooperation with the European Graduate School. In Nov 2022, I founded ‘Jambavan Arts Collective’, an Arts & Community Space in Varkala to serve the spirit of the creative inner child that resides within us all.

The Art Immersions done at Jambavan follow the architecture of ‘Intermodal Expressive Art Therapy’ that comes from the European Graduate School pedagogy. The Intermodal technique uniquely combines different modalities from Visual Art, Creative Writing, Music, Movement, PsychoDrama, Theatre etc into a single thematic step by step journey that helps in shedding layers of inhibitions ultimately enabling one to reconnect with their authentic self-expression. This process helps to gently tune into one's own inner voice and give wings to the most unadulterated form of their creative expression

I am trained in Reiki Level 3. Apart from making art, I also like to dabble in poetry every now and then. I love traveling and have had the fortune of visiting 32 countries so far. These days I am deepening into music. I am a student of ‘Naad Yoga’, I have been training in Western and Indian Classic Music and have been dedicating my time to singing and playing the guitar, ukulele, keyboard and the tanpura. I am also deepening my understanding of how to use sound and music as a healing modality. This has led me to discovering a host of indigenous sonic practices as well as modern sound healing modalities like creating digital, ambient soundscapes for journeying purposes.

I love consuming & creating all forms of Art in ways that my inner child guides me. I truly believe that Art has the power to heal & nourish everyone on this planet. And I am committed to bringing this dream alive in whatever way is possible!

I was born & raised in Dubai, UAE. I had moved around quite a bit (within the Gulf), staying in places like Abu Dhabi & Bahrain as well for a few years each. Honestly speaking, I don't recall too much from my life back then. What I do remember is being put through the rigmarole of constant tuitions and extracurricular activities. Whether it was playing the keyboard, carnatic vocal singing training & tennis lessons to name a few.

After 4 years of college in VIT (Vellore), I moved to Bangalore where my parents had also now settled down. I started to apply for jobs with big IT firms. I ended up landing a customer support job with Hewlett Packard in 2012.

One such day while I was at work (Some time in 2014), I picked up some printer paper from the office printer & using a CD marker I used to carry around with me & started to doodle. Figurines & shapes of different alien like creatures and animals found form through my hands. It was entertaining in some ways, but more importantly I was starting to tap into a solace that I was yearning for. Something that was my own, and no-one elses. A reignition of purpose, you could say. I didn't have any other prerogative except to keep drawing and creating whatever I could. Pushing my creative boundaries, seeking out ways to become better at what I was doing. I continued to work at my job, but my corporate job had become the part time hustle while I continued to explore my artistic side ferociously - my main stream of life force & purpose.

The evolution of the art finally lead to a signature style of mandalas that I absolutely love creating (in all sizes and shapes). On a fundamental level, we are all energy and vibration. Each of us, made unique in our own expression. We impart these energies and information we carry in our DNA into all our artistic expressions. The mandalas that come through me are a direct extension of source creation, expressing itself through me. I consider myself as a channel for this information to come forth. I wanted to bring this expression into what I was going to build as a foundation for my future. The inner-child in me I realised had been the one guiding my energy. Seeing all possibilities and outcomes. Jambavan Arts Collective being one of those inevitabilities.

Anvita and I are beyond excited to be holding this space here for our inner-children to come out and play & make it possible for others (such as yourself) to come and tap into the intelligence of this inner-wisdom that is responsible for all our growth and unadulterated creative expression.

Here's to holding the baton of creative expression burning and shining, especially through the dark and stormy nights that attempt to quell our light. Nothing shall stop what is being birthed. Thank for engaging with us, hope to meet you in person soon!
